Our Ethos
At The Cactus Clinic we want to enable people to re-gain and maintain their health through bodily autonomy with the use of plant medicines. Bodily autonomy is about having agency over one's body, it is about dignity and it is about choice.
Plant medicine, also called herbal medicine, uses plants and plant constituents to support and promote health. Plant medicine encourages and empowers people to look after themselves, and to take responsibility over their own healthcare; through growing, harvesting and preparing food and home herbal remedies, or by working with a qualified medical herbalist.
Western Herbal Medicine combines years of tradition with evidence based practice. Plants and their constituents are used by trained medical herbalists to help with a wide range of medical conditions. They will usually be processed in a liquid form as a tincture, powdered, or dried to prepare teas. An individualised liquid prescription will usually contain several plants chosen to help symptoms that are specific to the patient. Plant preparations can be used on their own, or alongside pharmaceutical drugs to support your medical condition. We will always prescribe plant preparations taking into account drug/plant interactions. Plant medicine is integrative in its approach to health, recognising the importance of looking at dietary and lifestyle recommendations.
The National Institute of Medical Herbalists and the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy are institutions in the UK that recognise and accredit medical herbalists that have completed appropriate clinical training.
We are a non-judgemental, inclusive clinic. We are committed to ensuring all communities feel safe and welcome at The Cactus Clinic.
